ST. LOUIS — Back-to-back earthquakes recently hit Venezuela, leaving the country in a state of emergency. In Caracas, photographs show flattened buildings and collapsed roads, while the area of La Guaira was hit particularly hard. The Venezuelan government says that at least 920 people are confirmed dead and thousands have been injured. Rescuers are continuing their search through rubble for thousands of people who are still missing.

Child Evangelism Fellowship® (CEF®) has active ministry in Venezuela; the staff was holding a training session on the morning of the earthquakes. The ministry is responding to help communities and meet with children, families, local leaders and others affected by the devastation and offer resources to bring hope and healing.

“Venezuela has been greatly impacted by the recent earthquakes, leaving many communities facing significant challenges and urgent needs,” said Fred Pry, Vice President of Administration for CEF. “The CEF ‘Hope for Venezuela’ task force immediately began its work to mobilize the resources to meet the practical, spiritual and support needs of the people with a special focus on children. CEF has staff already on the ground, and we are committed to equipping local leaders and responding with compassion to help bring hope and healing to those hurt by this devastation.”
