USPIE: ‘We ought to take this study into deep consideration and ask ourselves if this is the type of material we want America’s children learning for the next 250 years’
COLUMBIA, S.C. — A new report from conservative publisher Brave Books, titled “The America 250 Faith Gap,” claims that public libraries and publishers are indoctrinating children with progressive, revisionist history, censoring the faith foundations of the American story.
Analyzing over 300 books across 25 reading lists selected by public libraries, children’s publishers and additional institutional sources, Brave Books reportedly found zero titles covering faith, religious liberty or Christianity’s role in the nation’s founding. Despite religious liberty being enshrined in the First Amendment, the list included books such as Ibram X. Kendi’s “Stamped for Kids” and Nikole Hannah-Jones’s “Born on the Water,” a picture book on the controversial 1619 Project.
“As America approaches its 250th birthday, we ought to take this study into deep consideration and ask ourselves if this is the type of material we want America’s children learning for the next 250 years,” said Sheri Few, Founder and President of United States Parents Involved in Education (USPIE). “At this rate, children will have no inkling of the biblical foundations that built the ground they stand on, and no ideation of what it truly means to be ‘one nation under God.’”
According to Fox News, “Several recommended titles focused heavily on transgender activism during the 1969 Stonewall Riots, including a picture book for young children. Lists also heavily promoted Kate Messner’s History Smashers series, which claims to expose ‘myths, lies, and secrets’ in American history, as well as sympathetic biographies of former President Joe Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris, with no equivalent biographies of Republican leaders.”
Brave Books revealed that titles focused on American symbols, the classics, the Founding Fathers and civics were in the minority of books recommended for children. The handpicked reading lists commonly used the words “complicated, “hidden,” “untold” and more, to characterize the American story, rather than praising it.
“With a record-low number of U.S. adults saying they are ‘extremely’ or ‘very’ proud to be American, it is not surprising that public libraries and children’s publishers are choosing to rewrite America’s story,” shared Few. “The ideology behind thinking it is more important to learn about transgender activism and ‘lies’ about our nation is just what the Left has ordered.
“Soon, no one in America will be proud to live in the land of the free and the home of the brave. Children will grow up unaware of the Declaration of Independence and of where our rights come from — our Creator. They will have a rewritten definition of freedom and the role of faith and religious liberty.
“Faith IS the foundation of the American story; let us, nor our children, never forget it.”

United States Parents Involved in Education (USPIE) is a nonprofit, nationwide coalition that is fighting to return education to its proper local roots and restore parental authority over their children’s education by helping parents and local communities to escape federal and other national influences. It is the vision of USPIE to create a culture where parents, empowered with the authority to choose what and how their children learn, are the undisputed primary educators of their children, where local schools operate in support of families, and where education is unencumbered by federal mandates.
USPIE’s powerful documentary, “Truth & Lies in American Education,” addresses some of the most glaring issues in the American education system and helps parents experience a paradigm shift in how they think about education and the role of their local schools. The film follows Few’s daughter-in-law, April, as she seeks to learn more about the system she was planning on exposing to her own children and learns the shocking truth. “Truth & Lies in American Education” is available for streaming on SalemNOW, as well as on DVD.
