‘Economic resilience’: ‘Financial Issues’ cheers the American economy as consumer confidence rises

Mark Minnella: ‘America has once again proven that our economy is far stronger than critics want to admit’

PHILADELPHIA — Last month, Americans’ attitudes toward the U.S. economy increased to 91.2, according to the Conference Board’s consumer confidence index. Although consumer perceptions declined after the Iran war caused gas and oil prices to tick up and accelerated inflation, confidence in the economy is slowly recovering. Americans are continuing to spend, despite their “gloomy” outlook, as a recent government report revealed that consumer spending spiked in May. According to OANN, “Analysts expect the steady consumer outlays kept the economy growing at about a 2.5% annual rate in the April-June quarter.”

For Financial Issues” (FISM) host Mark Minnella, Americans’ increasing positive feelings toward the economy signal economic stability.

“What this article calls ‘gloomy,’ I see as another sign that the American economy is continuing to navigate its way back through pressure that would have broken a weaker nation,” said Minnella. “The reality is, gas prices are falling, consumers are still spending, which contradicts the poll findings, job openings remain solid, and growth is still moving forward. That is truly economic resilience. This administration has had to deal with inflation pressure from energy shocks and war-related uncertainty, yet the economy has refused to quit, and American families and businesses have pushed forward. The headline may want to dwell on yesterday’s damage, but the real story is that America has once again proven that our economy is far stronger than critics want to admit.”
