‘Financial Issues’ host: Home prices reaching an all-time high ‘is not evidence of a housing crisis’

‘Even amid the conflict with Iran, home sales remain 2.8% above last June, mortgage rates are lower than a year ago and wage growth now outpaces home-price growth,’ said Mark Minnella

PHILADELPHIA — In the month of June, sales of previously occupied American homes slowed, but a key metric of housing prices reached an all-time high, adding to the affordability difficulties of prospective homebuyers. According to the National Association of Realtors (NAR), existing home sales fell by 2.4% last month from May to a seasonally adjusted rate of 4.09 million units.

“Despite the lackluster sales, home prices continued to rise nationally last month. The U.S. median sales price increased 1.8% in June from a year earlier to $440,600, an all-time high on data going back to 1999, NAR said. Home prices have risen on an annual basis for 36 months in a row,” reported OANN.

“This June report is softer than hoped, but it is not evidence of a housing crisis,” said Financial Issues” (FISM) host Mark Minnella. “Take a look at the bigger picture, and it looks a lot different. In most years over the past decade, mid-summer housing activity has commonly slowed, while mortgage rates have historically eased from June into August. Even amid the conflict with Iran, political efforts to undermine confidence, and the lingering inflationary damage caused by the prior administration’s policies, home sales remain 2.8% above last June, mortgage rates are lower than a year ago and wage growth now outpaces home-price growth. That once again shows the resilience of the American economy and the average American family.”
