USAF Col. Maness urges support for Sen. Banks’ birthright citizenship bill

Retired Air Force colonel says legislation would codify Trump executive order and strengthen U.S. citizenship standards

GULFPORT, Miss. — Col. Rob L. Maness, USAF-ret today said Americans should support a recently introduced bill that would amend federal law and protect birthright citizenship for those genuinely qualified to receive it.

Indiana Sen. Jim Banks has introduced the Citizenship Act of 2026, legislation that would codify President Donald Trump’s executive order addressing birthright citizenship by amending federal law.

According to Banks’ office, the bill declares illegal immigration and birth tourism an ongoing invasion and provides that children born to illegal aliens and birth tourists would not automatically receive U.S. citizenship. The legislation follows a recent Supreme Court ruling that identified conflicts with federal law dating to 1940.

Col. Robert L. Maness, USAF-ret issued the following statement:

“This important legislation would codify President Trump’s executive order by amending federal law to ensure that children born to illegal aliens and birth tourists do not automatically receive U.S. citizenship,” Maness said.

He added, “By declaring illegal immigration and birth tourism as an ongoing invasion, the bill protects American sovereignty from those who seek to exploit our system. The Supreme Court’s recent ruling highlighted the need for congressional action, as it pointed out conflicts with existing federal law from 1940. Banks’ bill responds directly to this by reversing the effects of that decision and preventing millions of illegal aliens from gaming the immigration process. Supporting this measure is crucial to restoring control over our borders and citizenship standards.”
