Teacher training labels parental authority as oppressive and fascist
USPIE: ‘For years, leftists in government schools have been undermining parent-child relationships. Teaching children to disrespect their parents is a key method’
COLUMBIA, S.C. — Teacher training programs across the country are adopting radical new educational theories to undermine parental authority, Fox News Digital has reported.
“Ethnic studies” curricula are being implemented or endorsed in more than 22 states across the nation, according to PragerU CEO Marissa Streit. They use language such as “adultism,” which she says depicts standard, parental-set boundaries as a form of oppression.
“Due to systemic power dynamics, inherently the relationship between students and educators is an oppressive one,” the San Francisco Chronicle said about a training presentation that circulated on social media, in a June report cited by Fox.
“For years, leftists in government schools have been undermining parent-child relationships,” said Sheri Few, founder and president of United States Parents Involved in Education (USPIE). “Teaching children to disrespect their parents is a key method.
“Training teachers in these concepts and requiring their use in the classroom can be very effective. They convince children that they were born in the wrong body and should hide that from their own parents. This leads to depression and other harmful outcomes.”
While the term “adultism” historically originated in sociology to describe age discrimination against children, Streit argued that it has found new life in teacher training materials and is being used to portray standard parenting rules on clothing, relationships or major medical decisions as a form of “fascism” or tyranny.
Streit also tied the push against “adultism” to ongoing legal and political battles over parental notification policies. High-profile disputes across the nation — some reaching the U.S. Supreme Court — have centered on whether schools can conceal a student’s gender transition or preferred name and pronouns from their parents.
“This is part of a worldwide effort to ‘empower’ children and therefore undermine parental rights,” Few said.
“The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child is the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history, adopted in 1989 and defining a child as any human being under the age of 18. It consists of 54 articles that outline the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights of children, emphasizing that these rights are ‘universal, indivisible and interdependent.’
“Parents should also be wary of wolves in sheep’s clothing like the so-called Coalition for Responsible Home Education, which seeks to empower children, not parents. It was co-founded by Kieryn Darkwater, a blue-haired, sexually ambiguous community organizer who, according to his/her bio, ‘has spent most of their life as an activist.’”
