Justice Alito announces another Supreme Court term — how big a win is this for conservatives?

TUPELO, Miss. — Amidst retirement speculations, Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito just confirmed that he will remain on the bench for another term. This announcement from Alito comes as the midterms increase the pressure over how long Republicans will maintain control of the Senate majority needed to approve any eventual successor.
President Trump celebrated Justice Alito’s decision on Truth Social, stating, “He is one of the Greatest of All Time. We are all lucky!”
“President Trump is right: Justice Alito is an American treasure, and we are blessed to have him on the Supreme Court,” said Walker Wildmon, CEO of AFA Action, the governmental affairs affiliate of the American Family Association. “I don’t pretend to know what Justice Alito is thinking, but my read is that he loves this country too much to retire without confidence that his replacement will be just as strong.
“We owe it to Justice Alito — and to the American people — to be ready with a list of proven constitutional conservatives who will not shift the Court to the left. That is exactly what our Center for Judicial Renewal has done with its Green List.”
When the time comes for Justice Alito to retire, AFA Action says the selection of the next Supreme Court justice must be guided by data and constitutional principle, which is why the organization’s Green List of Supreme Court prospects provides ratings for those that best meet the ten principles of a constitutional judge.
“Our Green List is a result of over 10,000 hours of work evaluating over 35 prospects,” said AFA Action Senior Counsel and Director of the Center for Judicial Renewal, Phillip Jauregui. “It identifies six great prospects: Judge James Ho, Judge Lawrence VanDyke, Judge Kyle Duncan, FBI Deputy Director Andrew Bailey. U.S. Solicitor General John Sauer and ADF CEO and President Kristen Waggoner.
“Justices Alito and Thomas deserve to serve as long as they choose — and to know that when they eventually retire, their replacements will not shift the Court to the left. That is exactly what our Green List is designed to ensure.”
