Col. Maness: DSA party platform is a frontal assault on the Republic and constitutional government

GULFPORT, Miss. — Col. Robert L. Maness, USAF-ret., said today that Americans’ fear of social ostracism has helped create an environment in which socialist ideas can gain political ground, responding to a Federalist commentary by Stella Morabito on cancel culture and self-censorship.
Morabito’s commentary argues that fear of ridicule has discouraged Americans, particularly young people, from challenging socialism and helped normalize ideas once considered politically marginal. The piece points to recent electoral gains by candidates associated with the Democratic Socialists of America as evidence of that shift.
“As a combat veteran who spent more than three decades defending this nation against foreign tyrannies, I see clearly in Stella Morabito’s analysis how cancel culture’s weaponization of loneliness and fear of ostracism has prepared the ground for the left’s accelerating socialist advance,” said Maness. “Too many Americans, especially our young people, have self-censored rather than confront the truth that socialism is slavery, subjecting free citizens to an unaccountable elite that treats private property, children and liberty itself as state property.”
Maness said Americans who oppose socialism should exercise their First Amendment rights rather than remain silent because they fear criticism or exclusion.
“Free societies depend on citizens who are willing to speak plainly, defend constitutional liberty and challenge political ideas without surrendering to intimidation,” Maness said. “Americans cannot preserve freedom by quietly yielding the public square to those who would expand government power at liberty’s expense.”
Maness expands on his call for civic action in his new book, “What You Can Do About It — Taking Real Action Against Corruption, Radicalism, and Moral Decay to Save America.” The book presents his recommendations for confronting what he describes as corruption, radicalism and moral decay.
