Barry Meguiar: Bill Gates’ AI warning underscores dangers of humanity trying to ‘be like God’
IgniteAmerica founder says rapid artificial intelligence advances demand spiritual clarity as Gates warns leaders are unprepared
PHOENIX — Bill Gates’ recent warning that world leaders are unprepared for major risks posed by artificial intelligence should serve as a wake-up call about technology’s growing power over human life, according to IgniteAmerica Founder and President Barry Meguiar.
Gates, the Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist, warned in a recent essay that AI could eliminate jobs, empower criminals and stunt children’s development by replacing human relationships. He also said leaders, experts and communities are not adequately preparing for the transition into the AI era.
“It’s alarming to know, even without God, the brightest minds of our time are shouting the loudest about the dangers of AI. Indeed, the age of ‘Singularity,’ that moment when AI exceeds human intelligence, is becoming a reality. Elon Musk says it’s happening this year,” shared Meguiar.
Meguiar said the accelerating effort to expand human capabilities through science and technology raises questions that go beyond economics, employment and regulation.
“God is not pleased when we seek to become Him,” Meguiar said. “Science and technology are working together to enhance our physical, intellectual and psychological capabilities beyond our natural God-given limitations. Humanity is about to be replaced with Transhumanity!”
Gates said AI could become either a powerful equalizing force or a major source of injustice. He called ensuring AI is used for good the world’s top priority and warned there is no adequate plan for entering the AI era.
Meguiar said the debate should not be limited to what AI can accomplish, but must also confront what humanity risks surrendering when technological ambition outruns moral and spiritual restraint.
