U.S. jobs report is evidence that ‘America is standing strong,’ says ‘Financial Issues’ host
‘A weak economy would have a very difficult time absorbing a major war in the Middle East, disrupted energy supplies, oil approaching $100 a barrel, persistent inflation, and continuing economic and cyber threats’
PHILADELPHIA — The Department of Labor’s August 2026 jobs report revealed that the U.S. economy rebounded, adding 162,000 jobs — significantly higher than the estimate of 56,000. The nation’s unemployment rate held at 4.1%, and private payrolls added 127,000 jobs. In addition, government payrolls, local government, the manufacturing sector, food services and drinking places and healthcare all added jobs.
According to “Financial Issues” (FISM) host Mark Minnella, the August jobs report reflects a strong economy, one that demonstrates growth and stability.
“A weak economy would have a very difficult time absorbing a major war in the Middle East, disrupted energy supplies, oil approaching $100 a barrel, persistent inflation, and continuing economic and cyber threats from nations such as China and Russia without beginning to crack,” said Minnella. “Yet against that backdrop, the U.S. added 162,000 jobs in August, unemployment held at just 4.1%, private employers added 127,000 workers, manufacturing added 16,000 jobs, and June and July employment were revised higher by another 55,000 jobs. Meanwhile, the economy still grew at a 1.5% annual rate in the second quarter, private domestic demand grew at a much stronger 4.2%, and corporate profits posted a substantial increase. Even the energy system has shown remarkable adaptability, with Middle East oil exports significantly disrupted while alternative shipping routes and growing production outside OPEC have helped keep crude from moving well beyond $100.
“None of this means the economy is bulletproof. But when an economy takes this many punches and is not only still standing but punching back by creating jobs, growing private-sector demand, producing rising profits and keeping unemployment near 4%, that is not evidence of economic weakness; it is evidence of considerable strength and resilience. America is standing strong.”
