School board walks out when outraged parents confront them over explicit ‘Rainbow Parade’ book
USPIE: ‘It’s a way to discourage parents from speaking up when they see something that is clearly wrong’
COLUMBIA, S.C. — Parents in a New York school district erupted in anger after discovering an LGBTQ-themed children’s book with illustrations that feature naked people and men in bondage fetish outfits.
In a video shot on Sept. 13, a standing-room-only crowd of parents at the Penfield Central School District board meeting is seen objecting to the book. The board members abruptly adjourn the meeting and walk out on the parents.
The controversy erupted at Cobbles Elementary School over “The Rainbow Parade,” a picture book about a young girl attending a Pride parade with her two lesbian mothers. The book was available in a library serving children in kindergarten through fifth grade, according to podcaster Todd Starnes, who credited Libs of TikTok with breaking the story.
One parent, Jennifer Selever, said her fifth-grade daughter checked out the book in December. Viral social media posts show that the book includes cartoon drawings of naked people and two gay men in bondage fetish outfits holding hands.
Among the illustrations that Selever criticized is a nude man whose genitals are obscured by balloons. She quoted this passage from the book: “Everyone is wearing whatever makes them feel most like themselves, even if that means wearing hardly anything at all.”
“What a great message for children,” said Sheri Few, founder and president of United States Parents Involved in Education (USPIE). “And the parents’ stand in Penfield will probably be cited as an example of ‘censorship’ in the propaganda surrounding the upcoming Banned Books Week.
“That’s when activists from the American Library Association and other leftist-run groups pretend that censorship is out of control just because parents object to books in public libraries and government schools that are clearly aimed at seducing kids into sexual confusion and experimentation.
“It’s outrageous when adults facilitate pornography in K-6 schools. And state laws protect schools and libraries from prosecution, exempting them from anti-obscenity laws, something that most legislators probably did not intend.
“Pro-pornography educators wrongly accuse parents of wanting to ban all books just because they want porn out of school libraries and curricula. It’s a way to discourage parents from speaking up when they see something that is clearly wrong. It turns the parents into the bad guys and the predators into the victims.
“The lesson here is that government educators cannot be trusted. Get your kids out as fast as you can.”
