Save the Storks delivers 110th Mobile Medical Clinic to expand care across East Tennessee

New Mobile Medical Clinic honors baby Essie and will help Choices Resource Center reach women and families across 20 surrounding counties

PLANO, Texas — Save the Storks has delivered its 110th Mobile Medical Clinic, sending the custom medical unit from Colorado to Choices Resource Center in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, where it will expand access to life-affirming medical care and practical support throughout East Tennessee.

The Mobile Medical Clinic was presented Sept. 17 during Choices Resource Center’s Benefit for Life event before traveling to serve women in nearby communities. Choices Resource Center serves women and men from 20 surrounding counties, but transportation has prevented some people who contacted the center from reaching its Oak Ridge location.

The new Mobile Medical Clinic is named in honor of Essie, the daughter of a young mother who had recently arrived in the United States and came to Choices scheduled for an abortion. After seeing her baby on an ultrasound, the mother said, “I can’t do this.”

Choices then helped her navigate insurance barriers, medical debt and a job loss during recovery, connecting her with Tennessee Medicaid, financial assistance and community support. Today, her family is stable. The Mobile Medical Clinic will carry Essie’s name as it takes similar services beyond the center’s walls.

When Essie’s mother learned about the Mobile Medical Clinic, she said, “You’re going to save so many babies.”

“Seeing the reaction from Malissa, Choices Resource Center’s Executive Director, to her new state-of-the-art Mobile Medical Clinic reminded me of the importance of this work. Save the Storks is blessed to partner with Choices Resource Center on this Stork Bus that will deliver hope to women across East Tennessee. We applaud Malissa and her incredible team for serving women in need of medical support and care, truth, and life-affirming services. Together we will reach and serve more women, and save more lives,” said Diane Ferraro, CEO of Save the Storks.

Choices Executive Director Malissa, RN, said her first tour of the custom Mobile Medical Clinic underscored the dignity the center wants women to experience. “The love that the Lord has for them (women); this unit screams, ‘you are worthy of this care.’”

“This Mobile Medical Clinic will help bring compassionate medical services and practical support closer to women who may otherwise struggle to reach care,” Ferraro said. “Essie’s story is a powerful reminder of what can happen when a woman receives information, support and a community willing to walk alongside her.”

Choices began pursuing a Mobile Medical Clinic after sharing the vision at its previous annual banquet. The fundraising campaign formally launched by November, and donors supplied the funding needed to place the order within months.

Save the Storks partners with pregnancy health clinics to provide Mobile Medical Clinics designed to bring medical services and support into communities where women may face transportation, financial or other barriers to care.
