Pastors, be bold this election cycle; preach like the future of the country depends on it, says Dr. Alex McFarland

‘Churchgoers are clamoring for guidance and direction from their spiritual leaders, but unfortunately many pastors seem to fear taking a clear stand’

GREENSBORO, N.C. — There’s no doubt that Americans are facing an unprecedented midterm election season, with hot-button issues littering every facet of the ballot. For Christians, choosing the correct candidates is even more important than ever, but many are unsure of how to cast their vote. The majority of churchgoers (80%) reported that they expect pastors to address current issues from the pulpit, with 29% claiming it’s appropriate for pastors to personally endorse specific candidates.

“It’s time that pastors heed the call and actually preach the Word in every sense,” said youth, culture and religion expert Dr. Alex McFarland. “Who we vote for, from the city council all the way to our legislature, directly impacts us and our communities. Churchgoers are clamoring for guidance and direction from their spiritual leaders, but unfortunately many pastors seem to fear taking a clear stand. Electoral season calls for pastoral guidance. Pastors must speak to the issues of family, responsibility, governance, schools and common sense through a scriptural lens. Now is not the time to shrink from this responsibility — a responsibility that more than 80% of the audience sees as part of the pastor’s job.

“To my brothers and sisters in Christ, if your pastor shies away from taking a stand for the biblical truth, it’s time to find a new flock. The future of our nation and the American Church depends on our boldness.”

In August, McFarland was joined by author and radio host Eric Metaxas for a timely and poignant event for his Conversations that Matter series, discussing the birth of America and the truths surrounding its foundation. Metaxas thoroughly outlined the importance of living faith out loud, highlighting the tragic consequences of pastors in Germany who refused to speak to issues facing the people in the 1930s and 40s and the actions being taken by their government. Metaxas’ expertise offered a chilling glimpse into the potential future America could face if Christians aren’t equipped to get out and make a difference. In a world overflowing with opinions and half-truths, McFarland’s Conversations that Matter series offers participants a chance to explore what they believe, why they believe it and how those beliefs shape their lives.

To encourage Americans to be better equipped to vote, Alex McFarland Ministries compiled “10 Questions Every Voter Should Ask.”

In addition, Alex McFarland Ministries’ “Faith & Freedom” voter’s guide is designed to equip Christians to vote with confidence and conviction.
