A Boy Is Not Like His Sister

Trail Life USA: Boys Will Be Boys Who Turn into Men – Just As God Intended

August 2, 2021

GREENVILLE, S.C.—Boys will be boys, and that fact should be encouraged, equipped, and mentored at every possible opportunity. Trail Life USA (TrailLifeUSA.com) is growing boys into men through outdoor adventure led by strong male role models, teaching biblical principles that have endured the test of time.

“We believe God intended boys to be boys who grow up to become men. We believe God intended girls to be girls who grow up to become women,” said Trail Life CEO Mark Hancock. “There is no mystery to God’s plan or His purpose in this area. Men and women are different; not more or less valued, but unmistakably different. We recognize that boys are boys – God’s plan. We understand that God intends for them to grow up to become men – God’s purpose. We challenge them to reach that goal of manhood—God’s design for their lives.”

Trail Life USA is a Church-Based, Christ-Centered, Boy-Focused mentoring and discipleship journey that speaks to the heart of a boy. Established on timeless values derived from the Bible and set in the context of outdoor adventure, boys from Kindergarten through 12th grade are engaged in a Troop setting by male mentors where they are challenged to grow in character, understand their purpose, serve their community, and develop practical leadership skills to carry out the mission for which they were created.

Hancock addressed the bigger issue in how society views boys and men. “Manhood is a valuable but shrinking commodity. We have seen that a ‘one size’ fits all approach fails the boy and fails the world that needs him to become a man. The next generation will need men of character, men who can lead, men with courage, who dare to be men when manhood is under attack. We get there by laying a foundation for boys that it’s good to be boys, then we create a space where they can do that, and we reward their progress.”

Trail Life presents boys with difficult challenges, cheers them on as they struggle, fail, and win. Trail Life then mentors these boys in how to apply those experiences to what is ahead—manhood.
