ATLANTA — In his newest book, “Hope for This Present Crisis,” bestselling author Dr. Michael Youssef identifies one of the most destructive delusions infecting Western Society – the Marxist-Inspired body of thought known as Critical Theory.
Youssef states that although Marxism has failed every time it’s been tried, today’s Marxist radicals keep spreading their poisonous ideas in an effort to take over the world.
“Since the Marxists couldn’t start a revolution in America based on class warfare, they decided to divide people by race, gender, sexuality, and so forth, and then set them at war with each other. They would do this by convincing people that they were victims of ‘systemic oppression.’ This is called ‘awakening’ people to ‘critical consciousness.’ Once a person realizes that he or she is a victim of oppression, that person has been awakened—and is now ‘woke.’”
Dr. Youssef exposes the fallacy of this movement and how the “Victim-Oppressor” narrative has rebranded itself for today. “It now comes in many ‘flavors’: critical race theory, critical gender theory, critical legal theory, and more. It has rebranded itself to start a revolution based not on class, but on race, gender, sexuality, etc.”
Just as the “Victim-Opressor” narrative never solved economic inequality but actually served to perpetuate it, it does the same with racism: it perpetuates it, even while claiming to be antiracist.
In “Hope for This Present Crisis,” Dr. Youssef shows thatthe victim-oppressor narrative of critical theory drives all the forces that are seeking to destroy Western civilization:
- The riots and looting in our streets.
- The revolt and unrest on our university campuses.
- The millionaire athletes who disrespect the American flag.
- The “defund the police” movement among the radical left.
- The millions of American schoolchildren, from kindergartners to high school seniors, who are taught to hate America.
- The New York Times’s 1619 Project, which teaches that America was not founded in 1776 to establish freedom and human rights, but was founded when the first African slaves came to America in 1619.
“To the ‘woke’ activists, the mere existence of objective truth is a form of oppression,” says Youssef. “If the advocates of critical theory can deconstruct such an obvious truth as two plus two equals four, they can deconstruct any truth.”
Woke activists use violence and intimidation to force all of us to accept the false tenets of critical theory, as we have seen in the past year of civil unrest in our country from Antifa and Black Lives Matter (BLM).
Republican Senator Tim Scott sees this and called it out in his response to President Biden’s address to Congress on Wednesday, April 28, 2021. “What the left is doing is fighting bigotry with bigotry, and they’ve exposed their hypocrisy and their true motivation. It has nothing to do with ending prejudice; it has everything to do with claiming or getting more power.”
“Hear me clearly,” said Scott. “America is not a racist country. It’s backwards to fight discrimination with different types of discrimination. And it’s wrong to try to use our painful past to dishonestly shut down debates in the present.”
For speaking the truth, Senator Tim Scott has faced vitriol and threats from opponents across the country. Similarly, Dr. Youssef advises us to prepare ourselves to face attacks, both verbal and physical, because of the truth.
“In the days to come, you and I may face violence and intimidation from radical activists who despise the truth,” says Dr. Youssef. “They may confront us in a restaurant, on the street, or even in church. They may demand that we raise our fists or chant some slogan or kneel before them. They may threaten us with injury or death if we don’t comply. You have to make the decision whether or not you will submit to their threats—or take a stand for Christ.”
We must be prepared with a ready response so we can act according to our beliefs.
“I have already decided what I’m going to say if I’m ever in such a situation,” says Dr. Youssef. “I plan to respond, ‘I kneel only to King Jesus. He alone is the solution to racism. Jesus is Lord.’”
