Biblical Stewardship Authority Dan Celia Looks Back on Extreme Volatility That Closed Out 2018 and Ahead to 2019

PHILADELPHIA—Many starting out the new year might be hoping for a little more excitement and adventure in their lives in 2019.

But not investors—they saw enough excitement in the markets at the close of 2018.

Nationally syndicated host and biblical stewardship authority Dan Celia says more volatility is on the horizon, because political volatility and market volatility are linked.

“We have markets that are driven by politics,” Celia said on his daily, three-hour program, “Financial Issues,” last week. “And politics have been more volatile than the markets. This isn’t due to the president’s tweets but because there is a lot going on globally in politics. Does the venom the Democrats have in their hatred toward President Trump enter into the picture? Unfortunately, it certainly does. We are also dependent upon fiscal policy coming out of Washington, as we should be. What can we expect in February? Continued resolutions or a real budget? This should be the main wish list item President Trump has for Congress—a real budget. But things will continue to be extremely volatile, even from a political perspective. I pray that by the grace of God, I will be able to have an understanding of the times we’ll be in this year. Hopefully, I’ll be able to see between the lines and give Christian investors some insights that will be beneficial.”

After the extreme ups and downs of 2018 and considering the future moves the Federal Reserve may make, Celia added that stocks have remained resilient, yet volatile, in the face of a partial government shutdown and global growth concerns. But if Christians keep their eyes on the One who provides every resource, there is no need for worry or stress.

“With these volatile times closing out 2018, and perhaps with more ahead, Christian investors especially should pray that God would find us worthy to have understanding of these times and give us the abilities and wisdom to make decisions with our finances that will ultimately glorify Him,” Celia said. “Nothing else matters when it comes to our money, and in 2019, may that remain at the forefront of every person who follows the Lord.”

Celia discusses these and other global and economic headlines on his daily, three-hour “Financial Issues” program, heard on about 650 television and radio stations nationwide and reaching millions more on several television networks. Through the program, writing and daily interactions, Celia, who leads Financial Issues Stewardship Ministries (FISM, www.FinancialIssues.org), has helped people of faith honor God with their finances and be free from a fear of money.
