PHILADELPHIA—Nationally syndicated host and biblical investing authority Dan Celia discusses the economic numbers coming out this week.

“We’re going to start off this week with very little economic data. We did see job numbers slowing a bit. It seems like they’re losing a little bit of steam, but we do have December coming up. Part-time hires will likely increase somewhatven if it’s in warehouses from all the dot com sales that are going to be going on for Christmas.

“We do get a revised number on Tuesday of productivity for the third quarter. It’s sitting right now at 4.9%. We’ll call it 5%. That’s a very good number, and we’ll see what the revision does. I expect that it might be revised downward just a bit, but either way, it’s a very good number based on the situation that we were facing in the third quarter with the pandemic pullback. Job openings will come out; they’re sitting at 6.4 million. We’ll see if they go up a bit. That would be a pretty good sign, but I don’t expect that to happen until there is some certainty about the presidential election. That number will go down or up, depending on the results.

“Initial jobless claims will come out this Thursday and will be watched very, very closely since they did come down a little bit more than was expected, but they still have a long way to go. Core CPI is coming out. Consumer price index will give us some indication if there’s any inflation. There isn’t any, and I expect that to be pretty much a zero number, possibly even a negative number. All right, we’ll see what the rest of the week brings as we watch all the data.”
