PHILADELPHIA—Nationally syndicated host and biblical investing authority Dan Celia said today that this week will be interesting as more economic data becomes unveiled.
Pertaining to the week ahead, Celia said, “We are getting very interesting economic data this week; nothing out of the ordinary, but nonetheless, it’s an important week from an economic perspective. ISM, manufacturing index numbers are coming out. They’re expected to be relatively flat; I suspect they will be. This is a May number and it will be interesting to see if it does stay flat around 60.5, which would be fine. Construction spending comes out also on Tuesday morning and that is expected to be up slightly in April from the March number, but it’s not going to tell us a lot since we have May construction, home sales, permit numbers, and such coming out, and that might give us a better indication as to where we’re headed.
“We do get vehicle sales numbers coming out various times throughout the day on Wednesday, so we’ll see what that looks like. They are May numbers, but they will be very interesting, I suspect they should be up a bit, at least from the April numbers.
“Because of the holiday, we will get ADP employment numbers Thursday of this month instead of Wednesday. ADP is anticipating 700,000 private sector jobs, which would be a very good number. That would be just under 742,000 from the month of April. Jobless claims are expected to hit 400,000. I wouldn’t be surprised if it drops below 400,000 for the month of May. It looks like we’re getting closer to a relatively normal type number. We’ll see if new jobless claims continue to fall, which would be very good news.”
Celia discusses these and other global and economic headlines on his daily, three-hour “Financial Issues” program, heard on more than 660 radio stations and several television networks nationwide, including FISM.TV, viewed on several post-cable television platforms and online.
