YFC leader: ‘Even while the electrical power was out, Power was surging — a Power greater than a storm flowed through Camp and changed the lives of so many’

August 8, 2022

BALTIMOREThousands of people around the world know that Youth For Christ (YFC, www.yfc.net) is one of the foremost leaders in youth missional ministry, reaching young people everywhere, working together with the local church and other like-minded partners to raise up lifelong followers of Jesus.

One outreach, YFC Camp, is providing an excellent experience through which Jesus Christ can forever alter the life of every person attending camp and that they, in turn would be driven to alter the lives of those around them for Christ.

YFC Camp season is ending, and YFC leaders have been amazed at how God has worked in the lives of the young people who attended.

At the Northbay Camp location near Baltimore, Maryland, YFC Chief Ministry Strategist Seth Baker witnessed the power of God through some scary circumstances.

Baker said, “A massive thunderstorm blew through camp midway through the week, and as we scrambled to get every kid and leader indoors and under cover, the wind picked up and the lightning strikes got closer and louder. We watched as trash cans and tree branches blew past the windows and torrential rain came down in sheets. The sky was an eerie green when the storm finally passed, and we emerged to find many trees snapped in half and some of the camp’s decks smashed to splinters.

“But God had everything completely under control. As we went from cabin to cabin, every camper, volunteer, and leader was accounted for and safe. God protected this camp for His own eternal reasons.”

Baker continued, “Even though the power was out, Camp was going strong. Our verse for that day at camp was 2 Corinthians 6:2— ‘Behold, now is the accepted time. Today is the day of salvation.’ The God who physically saved us through the storm spiritually saved souls that very same day. That night, we presented kids with a chance to say yes to Jesus. Our speaker explained the Good News of the Gospel and invited them to say ‘YES’ out loud to their Creator — and many of the kids responded to the Holy Spirit that night!

“Even while the electrical power was out, Power was surging — a Power greater than a storm flowed through Camp and changed the lives of so many that day.”

YFC chapters impact thousands of communities across the nation, seeking out and serving youth from all walks of life. Young people are silently struggling through a wide variety of challenging issues—and through the YFC ministry God empowers, they see the living power of a loving God. YFC trains its leaders in a proven, relational ministry model called 3Story®, which encourages staff and volunteers to be good news while also sharing the stories of the Good News of Jesus. It involves building relationships through the ups and downs of everyday life to lead people to Christ.

YFC has been a pillar of missional ministry since 1944, when Dr. Billy Graham served as YFC’s first full-time staff member. Since then, Youth For Christ has continued to be both a rural and urban ministry on mission, and it is always about the message of Jesus. YFC reaches young people everywhere, working together with the local church and other like-minded partners to raise up lifelong followers of Jesus who lead by their godliness in lifestyle, devotion to the Word of God and prayer, passion for sharing the love of Christ, and commitment to social involvement. Youth For Christ operates in over 100 nations and has over 130 chapters that impact communities across America.
