Debbie Wuthnow: ‘The quality of candidates who make it onto the ballot in November will be determined by voters in their state primaries’

TUPELO, Miss. — With the primary elections already underway for some states, iVoterGuide (ivoterguide.com), the premier Christian voting guide, is determined to keep American voters informed about thousands of candidates on ballots in all fifty states.
Although often overshadowed by the general elections, the primary elections actually provide the greatest opportunity to move the needle toward more conservative policy and place candidates with conservative Christian values in a position to take on the Left in the general elections.
Debbie Wuthnow, president of iVoterGuide, explained, “When I say the words ‘Election Day,’ does the November general election immediately come to mind? If you’re like most voters, that term evokes visions of a Tuesday in November which finally concludes a months-long battle between the lesser of two evils. What if there was another Election Day? What if there was an opportunity to not just vote against a bad candidate, but vote for a good one? There is such an election day, but it’s often overlooked by a majority of voters. It’s the primary election!
“The primary election is a bit like the playoffs—but with a lot more at stake. It narrows the field of candidates for each elected office before the general election. Unfortunately, the best candidates aren’t necessarily the ones who advance to the general election. The quality of candidates who make it onto the ballot in November will be determined by voters in the primaries in their state.”
Wuthnow continued, “Often, the winning candidate in November is actually determined back in the primary. Districts are drawn in such a way that over 80% of them strongly favor one party over the other. In those districts, whoever wins that party’s primary will also likely win in the general election against the other party’s candidate. Because turnout in the primaries is less than the general, one vote carries greater weight.”
For voters who are unsure of who to vote for, iVoterGuide provides accurate, up-to-date information on the majority of the candidates, looking at voting history, positions on key issues, financial support, and more. Because differences between candidates aren’t as readily apparent in the primary as in the general election, iVoterGuide’s research and ratings can be extremely valuable in helping voters determine the distinctions between candidates who all run under the same party banner.
iVoterGuide is dedicated to equipping Americans to be informed, educated voters. iVoterGuide is a one-stop resource for candidate ratings and election information. A division of American Family Association (AFA) Action, it is known for its accuracy and integrity in researching and evaluating candidates and equipping Christians to vote wisely and be good stewards of their citizenship.
