‘Whose Side Are They On?’—The Stakes in Upcoming Local Elections Could Not Be Higher

May 11, 2021

DALLAS, Texas —American voters seeking to wield important influence in their home districts should look no further than the role they play in school board elections. Not only do school board officials help determine property tax rates, they also create and implement vital district policy on a wide variety of educational matters, impacting local schoolchildren every single day—and iVoterGuide is providing critical background data to assist voters in making the most informed decisions possible about those seeking that authority.

Among the critical insights needed about school board candidates, says iVoterGuide, is this: What do the candidates believe about today’s controversial and widely prevalent sex education and “gender identity” programs? Many such school-based educational initiatives, after all, are not only implemented with school board approval as gatekeepers and watchdogs—such programs also go directly against Christian values.

Debbie Wuthnow, president of iVoterGuide, is passionate about the importance of voter education on these close-to-home issues. “Much of school-based sex education today amounts to an assault on Christian belief,” she says. “As a mother, my heart breaks to see elected officials allow our tax-funded schools to lead our children and grandchildren into forms of sexual thinking and behavior that are destructive.”

She also says, “What is happening to our kids, in our schools, with our tax dollars, on the watch of officials elected by our votes, is appalling. It is spiritually, emotionally, and physically damaging young lives and undermining the values on which our nation was founded.”

Wuthnowpoints to a new sexual radicalism that is present within many taxpayer-funded school-based programs today—and believes voters must know where local candidates stand on the matter. “Today’s new sexual radicalism has implications for children’s mental and physical health,” she says. “An attack on a child’s sense of gender can leave him or her emotionally adrift in a sea of doubt, leading to a host of mental and emotional crises. As a whole, it is an attack on the foundation of faith, on the family, on social order, and on the bedrock of the nation. If it succeeds, America may not survive.”

Understanding how crucial it is to provide voters with compelling election information about school board candidates, iVoterGuide recently created a first-ever school board election test program: As an example, iVoterGuide gathered as much data as possible about candidates in the Board of Trustees elections in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. While the information was often hard to discover—some candidates chose not to reveal their views on certain issues—iVoterGuide drilled down to provide research previously unavailable and evaluated many of the candidates for DFW-area school board seats.

“School board candidates rarely receive the deserved scrutiny given the responsibility associated with that office,” explains Wuthnow. “However, iVoterGuide evaluated 56 Board of Trustee candidates, in 19 contested races, across nine school districts within the DFW metroplex. We conducted extensive research on these candidates, including donation records and issues surveys. Residents in the DFW Metroplex who visited www.ivoterguide.com had the fruit of our labor at their fingertips and had the opportunity to make educated decisions.”

When iVoterGuide conducted candidate evaluations, among its revealing findings were these: Several candidates in the race strongly agreed with permitting students to use public restrooms, showers, and changing rooms, and to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify—rather than their biological gender.

For its informed analysis and thorough research on these topics and scores of others important to voters across the nation, iVoterGuide is a trusted, one-stop resource for candidate ratings and election information. In 2020, iVoterGuide’s expert researchers gave an in-depth analysis—and overall rating—from a Christian and conservative perspective for 8,000+ candidates in more than 3,300 races nationwide.

Additionally, iVoterGuide offers election dates, registration deadlines, polling locations, and other information needed to help Americans vote wisely and identify candidates on the ballot who share their values. Related tools are also available to inform family, neighbors, and business associates about getting their own personalized ballots. iVoterGuide is helping to restore the principles of limited government, free enterprise, and traditional American values.

iVoterGuide also created Pray for Leaders, an easy way for voters to pray by name for the officials whom they personally have the authority to elect.
