DAYTON, OHIO — Parents are rising up to challenge school authorities over mask and vaccine mandates, a movement championed by Moms for America® (momsforamerica.us), which hascalled for a National Parents’ Strike to keep children at home.
At a press conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan on August 19, Moms for America® founder Kimberly Fletcher spoke on behalf of Moms for America® Action in officially announcing the parents’ strike.
“We as mothers and parents are very concerned about what’s happening with our own children,” Fletcher said. “We have had enough of the forced mandates, knee-jerk reactions, and government overreach in the decision making and the well-being of our children. We will not co-parent with the government.
The call for a parents’ strike was triggered by condescending school officials and the federal Center for Disease Control (CDC), which issued a recommendation for “universal indoor masking by all students (age 2 and older), staff, teachers, and visitors to K-12 schools, regardless of vaccination status (updated Aug. 5).”
In addition to opposing mask mandates for children, Moms for America® is also calling for parents to protest mandatory COVID-19 testing in schools and any requirements for K-12 students to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
“Our movement is growing,” Fletcher said. “This isn’t about masks or vaccines; it’s about freedom. We want the freedom to choose what is in the best interest of our children, and we have a fundamental right to do so.”
In Genesee County, Michigan, hundreds of parents lined the streets of the city of Flint on August 19 to protest the requirements. Earlier, at a Mattawan school board meeting, parents spent nearly four hours arguing against mask mandates. Some called them “muzzles.”
Cindy Chafian, Director of Coalitions and Engagement for Moms for America® Action, said that homeschooling has become the answer for more and more parents frustrated with masks, mandates and miseducation.
“The public school system has turned into nothing more than a re-education camp for Marxist indoctrination and we no longer will stay on board,” Chafian said. “We have the power to decide what is best for our children, and we are going to take that power and authority back. These children belong to us. They do not belong to the government.”
“The National Parents’ Strike is the best immediate action that parents can take,” Fletcher said. “Few parents can afford to file lawsuits, and school board elections to get rid of these bad members are too far in the future.
“Right now, this is about the urgent need to safely protect our children, and that’s going to have to be pulling them out [of schools],” she said. “If enough parents do that, the districts will be forced to reverse these bad policies, because they will lose per-pupil revenue.
“Kids are money, and when we pull our children out, how are they going to get paid?” she said.
Fletcher stated, “We need parents across the country to take a powerful stand and say NO MORE! This is an issue in every single state at some level. It’s time for parents to strike back! Keep your kids out of school until your demands are met.”
