Pork Shortage? Probably Not in Next Rescue Bill, Says Dan Celia
May 13, 2020
PHILADELPHIA—As COVID-19 continues to dominate financial headlines, nationally syndicated host and biblical investing authority Dan Celia is looking at the next round of relief efforts for the United States, corporate America and individuals.
“House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said on Monday that the next rescue bill for the economy and the health care system is likely to include $500 billion or more in relief for states and municipalities,” Celia said. “Now, one can only imagine that will include states and municipalities that were awfully far under the water before all of this started. I do think this pandemic has created an enormous burden for hospitals. Of course, if we’re going to give aid to corporate America, we certainly have to include the hospitals that have been working night and day, nonstop, doing the best they can with what they’ve had to deal with.
“The reason the Democrats needed more time on this bill—they don’t think they can look at it until Friday—is to put pork in it,” Celia added. “Apparently, they heard there could be a pork shortage; they thought we were talking about political pork. I would warn them, as well as the Republicans, that someday the details of what was put into this bill will come out, and they need to have a clear understanding of that. And there are people like me who have a bit of a megaphone who will do their best to remind the voters of just exactly what happened and what the politicians don’t want them to see. We have to look at this very carefully, and I hope we don’t rush it too quickly and we take the time to look at what worked for the last round and what didn’t work. For example, if we do this, do we now include a payroll tax holiday? But I don’t think lawmakers will go there in this round.”
Celia discusses these and other global and economic headlines on his daily, three-hour “Financial Issues” program, heard on more than 660 radio stations and several television networks nationwide, including FISM.TV, viewed on several post-cable television platforms and online.
