Samaritan Ministries’ ‘Family Health Checkup’ Radio Feature Helps Families Sort Fact from Fiction
Daily One-Minute Radio Feature Airs on 681 Stations and Provides Info on Nutrition, Fitness, Safety, Kids’ Health and More from a Christian Source
PEORIA, Ill.—Samaritan Ministries International (samaritanministries.org), one of the leading health care sharing ministries in America, communicates with its more than 82,000 member households (267,000-plus individual members) in a variety of ways—via a monthly newsletter, on social media, through an informative blog and more.
But beyond the members of this 25-year-old health care sharing ministry, Samaritan Ministries reaches out to millions of radio listeners through the daily one-minute feature “Family Health Checkup.”
“Family Health Checkup” airs on 681 radio outlets in all 50 states and in some international markets, and the radio feature is growing. Doug Chamberlain, Samaritan’s “Family Health Checkup” host and producer as well as a 25-year CCM radio veteran, researches, writes, records, edits and works to syndicate the program.
“Since ‘Family Health Checkup’ officially launched at the National Religious Broadcasters Convention three years ago in March 2016, we’ve had the pleasure of informing millions of listeners about how they can be better educated about their health care,” Chamberlain said. “‘Family Health Checkup’ is designed to provide valuable, upbeat insights on nutrition, fitness, seasonal health, safety, money-saving tips, kids’ health and much more from a trusted Christian source. It is intended to be a public service to the Christian community and beyond.”
Recent “Family Health Checkup” programs have explored topics like “Healthy Eating on the Go,” “The Benefits of Napping,” “Safe Healthy Grilling,” “Tips for a Healthy Spring” and “Spring Snacking on the Go.”
On the “Family Health Checkup” website, Samaritan delves even deeper into health-related matters with weekly articles that give readers and listeners valuable information on subjects such as “Basic Food Storage Tips,” “Decoding Nutrition Labels,” “Strength Training for Heart Health” and “Staying Hydrated with Healthy Foods.”
Leaders and staff members at Samaritan Ministries know that providing members with solid and helpful information will not only keep them healthier but may also keep them out of doctors’ offices and hospitals as well.
Each month, Samaritan members send their financial shares directly to other members, along with notes and cards of encouragement, through this effective, God-honoring ministry. Samaritan’s growing Biblical community shares approximately $29 million in medical needs person-to-person each month. In fact, from 2007 through 2017, Samaritan Ministries members shared $1.2 billion in health care needs. Yet Samaritan’s monthly share has never exceeded $495 for a family of any size and is even less for two-person and single-person households.
