CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Biden administration recently turned heads when it endorsed “gender-affirming” surgeries and hormone therapy. The administration released a document describing what it called “appropriate treatments” for transgender youth, including: ‘“Top’ surgery— to create male-typical chest shape or enhance breasts; and ‘Bottom’ surgery— surgery on genitals or reproductive organs, facial feminization or other procedures.”

This news has been met with outrage with many of the country’s top Christian organizations, including Southern Evangelical Seminary (SES, www.ses.edu), a pioneer in integrated training in theology, philosophy, and apologetics. The concerning statement from the president came just ahead of SES’s highly anticipated National Conference on Christian Apologetics (NCCA) this month, where many of the foremost experts in apologetics, theology and more will analyze the effect and reach of Christianity in modern times, as well as equip Christians with the tools needed to speak truth to a morally gray culture.

The conference, titled “Remaining Steadfast in an Upside Down World,” will take place on April 8-9, 2022, at First Baptist Church Rock Hill in Rock Hill, SC just outside of Charlotte, NC. Sessions include “The False Gospel of Social Justice,” “Scriptural Womanhood in the Twenty-First Century,” “Answering Progressive Christianity,” and many more. Judge Phil Ginn, president of Southern Evangelical Seminary, commented, “Let’s face it for what it is. Deep down in the hearts of Christians, and I dare say most of the ordinary people in America, we know that something is just not right in our nation—don’t we? Sometimes it may be difficult to pinpoint exactly what it is that troubles us, but then there are times when the obvious jumps off the page into our laps.

“When our own president endorses forcing genital mutilation and puberty blocking drugs on even young children, common sense will tell you that this gobbledygook is at best based on alchemy or pseudo-science and doesn’t even get close to the scientific model from which these evil forces claim their authority. Just ask yourself this one question: Who makes the decision for the child? Do we really think that a five-year-old or even a ten-year-old child has the maturity to make such a life changing decision?”

Ginn continued, “The obvious answer is that biased adults will be making the decision for them, and that is child abuse, no matter what the president may think or say.

“We at Southern Evangelical Seminary and Bible College believe that it is high time for Christians to stand up and be counted against the creeping totalitarianism in this country that is behind such an absurd and harmful atrocity that is about to be forced upon our precious and vulnerable children. Enough is enough; it is time for Christians to act like who we should be— people of The Book. If we do not speak up for our children and our nation, who will?”

Judge Phil Ginn was appointed president of SES in April 2021 after a distinguished career as both a lawyer and a judge. He holds a B.A. from Appalachian State University, a J.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Doctor of Ministry from Southern Evangelical Seminary. The mission of SES is to train men and women, based on the inerrant and infallible written Word of God, for the evangelization of the world and the defense of the historic Christian faith. SES offers a range of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees (along with several for-credit certificates) that uniquely integrate theology, philosophy, and apologetics to build a complete and systematic Christian worldview.
