Southern Evangelical Seminary Begins New Term of Classes and Celebrates 28th Year of Equipping Students to Defend the Christian Faith
International Leaders in Christian Apologetics Give SES Words of Praise
January 27, 2020
CHARLOTTE, N.C.—An exciting new term of courses is under way at Southern Evangelical Seminary (SES), which is kicking off 2020 celebrating 28 years of helping Christians proclaim the Gospel, engage the culture and defend the truth.
SES President and Evangelical leader Dr. Richard Land said the seminary is looking forward to the new semester and the year and yet another opportunity to glorify God through the teaching of apologetics.
“As we celebrate our 28th anniversary in 2020, Southern Evangelical Seminary is extremely grateful to God for the many blessings He has bestowed on us over the past 28 years,” Land said. “SES has focused on equipping students, as well as attendees at SES’s annual apologetics conference, to rationally and lovingly defend both their faith and the inerrant Word of God. There has never been perhaps a more important time for American Christians to know what we believe, why we believe it, and why we are commanded and compelled to share it with others.
“SES is uniquely positioned to offer students something that cannot be found anywhere else in an Evangelical context—resident and online education programs that integrate classical philosophy, apologetics and theology to construct a comprehensive worldview,” he added. “We are convinced that no one of these academic disciplines by itself provides the full-orbed defense of the historic Christian faith that a thorough grounding in all three fields provides. Consequently, every class at SES, regardless of the subject, builds upon the other to form and complete an integrated systematic view of reality and essential Christian doctrine.”
Several leaders in the field of Christian apologetics have close ties to SES and have lent words of praise for the seminary:
- “SES is focused on equipping modern believers with classical Christian thinking to more effectively proclaim and defend the Gospel.”—Norman Geisler (1932-2019), SES Co-founder/President Emeritus
- “I can’t recommend SES any more highly. … There’s no better place to come to get to know God and make Him known.”—Frank Turek, SES Alumnus/Adjunct Professor, President of CrossExamined.org
- “SES provides a truly unique opportunity to examine the evidence for Christianity. It’s accessible, engaging, and relevant. If you want to become a good Christian Case Maker, SES was designed for you!”—J. Warner Wallace, SES Adjunct Faculty, Cold-Case Detective, Senior Fellow at the Colson Center
- “I think anybody doing ministry [or] preparing for ministry ought to be sure that apologetics is a vital part of that preparation as well. … A place like Southern Evangelical Seminary that prepares students for this kind of study is a valuable place to go and prepare. … You are going to need this discipline.”—Ravi Zacharias, SES Advisory Board, Founder of Ravi Zacharias International Ministries
Classes in the upcoming winter and spring modules at Southern Evangelical Seminary will be offered in a variety of formats, from on-campus to online to live-streaming. Courses can be taken for-credit via SES’s degree and certificate programs, and audit options are also available. Evening courses are tailored toward working adults, and live-streaming allows for classroom engagement anywhere in the world. The courses offer students of all ages valuable insights that will help them engage the ideas of today’s culture regardless of the ministry context or stage of life.
Land noted that when NFL Hall of Fame Coach Vince Lombardi had his first meeting with the Green Bay Packers, he told them, “Gentlemen, we will chase perfection, and we will chase it relentlessly, knowing all the while we can never attain it. But along the way we shall catch excellence.”
“I can think of no more eloquent or accurate way to describe our aspiration and commitment at SES,” Land said. “The entire SES family is committed to achieving excellence for the glory of Christ our Savior.”
