‘In the Name of Diversity, We Are Sacrificing the Very Faith that We Proclaim on the Altar of a Culture that Denies the Very Essence of What We Claim to Believe’
January 10, 2022
A recent report by The Institute for Pro-Life Advancement revealed that over 100 Christian colleges have some ties to Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider. These ties include some colleges listing Planned Parenthood as a “women’s health” resource, a “future career opportunity,” or even touting the organization as a volunteer opportunity.
The Institute for Pro-Life Advancement released the report in an effort to bring awareness of “colleges and universities that claim an affiliation with the Christian faith and biblical values… [that] contradict those values by partnering with or promoting perpetrators of abortion violence.”
In response to this concerning statistic, Judge Phil Ginn, president of Southern Evangelical Seminary (SES, www.ses.edu), called for Christian organizations to remain true to their biblical foundations.
Ginn stated, “One of the clear commands of Jesus is that his followers are to be ‘in the world’ but not ‘of the world.’ Perhaps the greatest travesty in the Christian world is when we get these two categories confused. Like tainted water that seeps into a freshwater supply, the compromising of our faith as Christians has a devastating effect on the quality of our calling. Now we are learning that more than 100 so-called Christian colleges across America have some relationship to Planned Parenthood, our nation’s largest abortion provider. In the name of diversity, we are sacrificing the very faith that we proclaim on the altar of a culture that denies the very essence of what we claim to believe.
“My plea to Christians all across America is to come home to the truth of the Gospel message and to its redemptive power in the forgiveness of sins and eternal life. We should be telling the world about a God who redeems us from the power of this world and its culture of sinking sand as opposed to seeking ways to live in harmony with those whose sole ambition is to destroy our faith.”
Ginn concluded, “We at Southern Evangelical Seminary have committed to being Steadfast in the Truth. Isn’t it time that all true Christians join with us in this endeavor?”
Judge Phil Ginn was appointed president of SES in April 2021 after a distinguished career as both a lawyer and a judge. He holds a B.A. from Appalachian State University, a J.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Doctor of Ministry from Southern Evangelical Seminary. Prior to his appointment as SES president, Judge Ginn served as SES Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
SES will soon be holding their 28th annual National Conference on Christian Apologetics (NCCA) titled “Remaining Steadfast in an Upside Down World.” The event will take place on April 8-9, 2022, at FBC Rock Hill in Rock Hill, SC just outside of Charlotte. Speaker and ticket details will be coming soon.
The mission of SES is to train men and women, based on the inerrant and infallible written Word of God, for the evangelization of the world and the defense of the historic Christian faith. SES offers a range of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees (along with several for-credit certificates) that uniquely integrate theology, philosophy, and apologetics to build a complete and systematic Christian worldview.
