Southern Evangelical Seminary President Dr. Richard Land Issues Statement About Ravi Zacharias
May 11, 2020
CHARLOTTE, N.C.—Dr. Richard Land, president of the Southern Evangelical Seminary (SES, http://www.ses.edu), issued this statement today:
“It is with the greatest sadness that we received the heartbreaking news that our dear Christian brother Ravi Zacharias has been diagnosed with terminal cancer for which ‘no options for further treatment remain.’
“All of us in the Southern Evangelical Seminary family have been, and will continue, praying fervently for Ravi and his family. We will continue to pray that our Heavenly Father will heal Ravi and give him many more years to continue his invaluable ministry for our Savior and His Church. We do acknowledge that God’s judgments are ‘unsearchable’ and ‘His ways past finding out’ (Rom 11:33).
“However, it may be that it is God’s appointed time for Ravi to go home to his Heavenly Father and hear, ‘Well done, thy good and faithful servant!’ We do know as the great preacher Charles Spurgeon reminds us, ‘When we can’t understand God’s thoughts, we can always trust His heart.’
“If God heals Ravi, we will praise His Holy Name. If God wills that it is time for Ravi’s homegoing, we will grieve for our loss, be comforted by the certain knowledge that Ravi will be ‘present with the Lord’ (2 Cor. 5:8), and be thankful that we were privileged to know a true giant of the faith as he served among us!”
