CHARLOTTE, N.C.— What an extraordinary first few weeks of the Biden administration this has been. “Sleepy Joe,” the invisible, “stealth” candidate, the moderate, sober antidote to the phalanx of progressively more progressive leftist democratic presidential candidates, has morphed into “whirlwind Joe,” firing off Executive Orders at a record-breaking pace including greatly expanding the U.S. taxpayers funding of abortion both here and around the world.
It is clear to many that President Biden has completely broken with his church’s bedrock belief in the sanctity of all human life from conception to natural death. Dr. Land continued, “And not only has President Biden turned his back on one of the bedrock beliefs of his Roman Catholic faith, he continues to enjoy the accolades of a fawning press core that speaks of his ‘devotion’ and his ‘deep faith. The terrible truth is that President Biden has never met an abortion he couldn’t live with, even though the baby always dies.’”
According to a recent poll conducted by Students for Life of America, significant majorities of Americans of all faiths reject the radical pro-abortion agenda now being implemented. Speaking to the apparently glaring contradiction between President’s Biden’s dedication to his faith and his politics, the Catholic Association’s senior fellow Ashley McGuire spoke for millions of Roman Catholics and other religious Americans when she said, “If there’s an area where Catholics are most confused, it’s how can you be somebody who’s so ardently promoting your Catholicity while at the same time adopting views that are so extremely divergent from where you Church is on the issue.”
“It is estimated that there are approximately 825,000 abortions in the United States every year, which makes America the thirteenth most abortive nation per capita in the world,” Dr. Land stated. “I’m sure that’s a list most Americans do not want to be on. Of the 12 nations ahead of America on the list, 11 of the nations are former or current communist or socialist regimes, which tells you something about the life-denying philosophies of these atheistic systems. By the way, the least abortive country in the world per capita is Mexico with an abortion rate of .1 per thousand women aged 15-44.”
According to Dr. Land, this level of frustration of the people’s will by ruling managerial elites will lead over time to great disillusionment with the political system itself and stifle the body of Christ’s efforts to be the salt and light in society that God has commanded us to be. “In time if continually ignored, it will lead to explosive rage and resistance against a calcified political system apparently incapable in its ossified state of responding to the will of the people,” Dr. Land said. “Let us all covenant together to make sure that doesn’t happen. The consequences of inaction are too dire to contemplate.
“However, the most urgent and costly aspect of this continuing practice of abortion on demand is the devastating spiritual and cultural toll it has been inflicting on our country.
“The continued mass slaughter of our unborn citizens, approximately 25 to 30% of babies conceived each year in American, now for almost half a century, has devalued all human life, born and unborn, in America. It has brutalized us and made all human life less sacred. The slaughter of the innocent has desensitized us and is ever more rapidly demagnetizing our personal and collective moral compasses.
“As Archbishop Gomez, the current President of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, so succinctly put it in his letter to President Biden, ‘Abortion is a direct attack on life that also wounds the woman and undermines the family. It is not only a private matter, it raises troubling and fundamental questions of fraternity, solidarity, and inclusion in the human community.’
“As Pope John Paul II stated so eloquently, there is a ‘culture of death’ loose in Western civilization, and its inexorable march from the womb, to the nursing home, to the intensive care unit, and now to the delivery room and the newborn nursery continues relentlessly. Seldom have the ever-expanding concentric circles of the destruction wrought by abortion been so aptly described in so few well-chosen words.
“As John Donne cautioned us, ‘No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; … any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind. And therefore, never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee” (John Donne, ‘No Man Is an Island’).
“We are continuing our accelerating descent into the dark abyss of death. We must turn back before it is too late. The bell is tolling for all of us—for each and every one of us, and each baby’s death ‘diminishes” each and every one of us, whether we acknowledge it or not.
“This issue is our greatest moral peril, and the hour is late. Let us awaken and embrace the full meaning of our national covenant, ‘All men are created equal’, and ‘they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights’, including ‘Life…’”
SES offers the 15-hour Certificate in Philosophy, Politics, & Economics (PPE). The PPE can also be used as a concentration within most master’s degrees (excluding M.A.R.).We believe that one must minister to the present generation according to its needs, and to do so with truth and power our students need training in the ethical, political, and economic implications of the unchanging Faith “once delivered to the saints” (Jude 3). This combination of PPE training and classical seminary education can be a potent one in combating the new heresies and false doctrines rooted in a secularist, progressivist worldview.
