Southern Evangelical Seminary to Welcome Nationally Known Speakers for October Apologetics Conference

June 2, 2020
CHARLOTTE, N.C.—In a world where few and few things seems certain, Southern Evangelical Seminary (SES, www.ses.edu) wants believers to know there’s one thing to which they can “hold fast”—the historic Christian faith.
A nationally known lineup of speakers will join SES for its 2020 National Conference on Christian Apologetics (NCCA), set for Oct. 16-17 in Charlotte, as the seminary focuses on the theme of “Hold Fast” for the 27th annual conference. Attended by thousands from around the country, SES’s annual conference has provided Christians with the motivation, knowledge and tools to defend their beliefs in a culture that is sometimes hostile toward Christianity.
“Over the past several months, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced many to consider their faith in different ways,” said SES President and Evangelical leader Dr. Richard Land, who will also serve as a conference speaker. “Perhaps faith has grown and strengthened; perhaps it has waned. Many may be asking, ‘Why does a good God allow evil?’ The pandemic has caused honest questions to arise in the hearts of millions worldwide. For 27 years, Southern Evangelical Seminary’s National Conference on Christian Apologetics has equipped believers to defend the historic Christian faith when they are faced with these tough questions.
“We felt led to make ‘Hold Fast’ the theme of our 2020 conference many months ago,” Land continued. “It seems even more timely today. The pandemic has reminded us that the things of this Earth are temporary, but the truth of inerrant Scripture is unchanging, unwavering and forever. As 1 Thessalonians 5:21 says, ‘Prove all things; hold fast that which is good’ (KJV).”
Besides Land, Kristen Davis, Gary Habermas, Richard Howe, Abdu Murray, Jay Richards, Hugh Ross, John Stonestreet, Frank Turek, Daniel Wallace and many more are among the confirmed speakers for the conference.
Land added that the conference weekend will include a special tribute to Dr. Norman Geisler, SES’s cofounder, and Ravi Zacharias, both of whom passed away in the past 18 months. Zacharias headlined the 2018 NCCA and had for many years been engaged with students, faculty and administration at the seminary.
“All of us at Southern Evangelical Seminary considered Ravi, who served as an SES adjunct professor and on our Board of Advisors, to be a vital part of the SES family,” Land said in a statement at the time of Zacharias’ death. “Ravi was mentored by our cofounder, Dr. Norman Geisler, and thus shared the Geislerian DNA with the rest of the SES extended family. He often spoke of the great intellectual debt he owed Dr. Geisler. Of course, all of Christendom owes an incalculable debt to Ravi and his ministry for Christ among us.”
Zacharias had said of SES: “I think anybody doing ministry [or] preparing for ministry ought to be sure that apologetics is a vital part of that preparation as well. … A place like Southern Evangelical Seminary that prepares students for this kind of study is a valuable place to go and prepare. … You are going to need this discipline.”
Dr. Land added, “A new documentary honoring Dr. Geisler’s life and ministry will also be featured at the conference.”
The early bird deadline for the National Conference on Christian Apologetics is Aug. 1, and the first 150 registrants will receive a free Apologetics Study Bible, an autographed copy of a Dr. Land book and the chance to have a Q&A session with Dr. Land at the conference.
