Ryan Bomberger, formerly in the foster care system: ‘This courageous act of love and selflessness helps to bring healing, hope and wholeness’

WASHINGTON D.C. — As the country anxiously awaits the official SCOTUS Dobbs v. Jackson ruling after its infamous leak earlier in May, abortion activists have taken to the streets vehemently protesting and demonizing pro-lifers, adoption and foster care. The myth perpetuated by abortion advocates is that an unplanned life equals an unwanted, unloved child. This myth is a lie that is shattered every day by millions of birth parents, adoptees, and adoptive families who prove there is no such thing as unwanted.
The Radiance Foundation (Radiance, www.radiance.life), co-founded by Ryan and Bethany Bomberger, believes every human life has a purpose in and out of the womb. The Radiance Foundation supports pregnancy help centers, the beauty of adoption, foster care families who sacrifice convenience for compassion, and the fight against fatherlessness. An advocate for life at every age, stage, and ability, Ryan and Bethany Bomberger promote the power of adoption as a loving alternative to abortion.
Ryan Bomberger stated, “The pro-abortion Left, which celebrates the systemic racism of abortion, falsely casts pro-lifers as racists, white evangelicals and Catholics as white supremacists who are privileged and fragile. They also portray ‘transracially’ adopted children as victims. The only fragility that matters is that of vulnerable children who need the rescue that foster care can temporarily offer or the love that adoption can bring for a lifetime.
“We show the strength of our humanity when we protect the weakest among us. I was conceived in rape yet adopted in love. I was temporarily in foster care, like many of my siblings, and I was adopted into a loving, multi-color Christian family of 15 with siblings from various backgrounds. Today, I am a happily married man and an adoptive father. My amazing wife, Bethany, and I have four remarkable children (two of whom were also adopted).”
Bomberger continued, “The way we understand adoption changes the way we apply it in our society. Perhaps it explains why there were only 110,373 adoptions in 2014 (the latest year national adoption stats were reported) yet 926,200 abortions that same year. Abortion eliminates millions of possibilities of adoption. Recent foster care stats also reveal where society is failing to rescue vulnerable children. There were 117,470 foster children available for adoption in 2020; 57,881 children were adopted out of foster care that same year. We must do better as a society. No child should languish in foster care.
“Adoption is an act of love, hope, and justice. It helps restore what was broken. This courageous act of love and selflessness helps to bring healing, hope and wholeness. We need to uplift all of those in this beautiful triad — the birthparents, the adoptee, and the adoptive family.”
