The Tide® Global Radio Ministry Partners with Child Evangelism Fellowship to Share the Gospel Message with Children in Afghanistan

The Tide Ministry Hopes to Reach Children Through Music and Bible Stories Broadcast in the Dari Language

HARRISBURG, Pa.—By beginning the Good News Club broadcast with a song, The Tide® (www.TheTide.org) ministry and Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) hope to capture the attention of young listeners in Afghanistan. The two ministries—whose goals are to reach people across the globe—are working together to present the Gospel to the next generation in Afghanistan by producing weekly radio programs to broadcast into Afghanistan.

The Tide ministry, broadcasting the Gospel message in 27 languages in nine countries on three continents using local languages, also known as heart languages, has never shied away from ministering in hard-to-reach places. “Afghanistan is a very difficult place to do face-to-face ministry,” said The Tide Director Don Shenk. “And with approximately 12 million children between the ages of four and 14, it has a relatively high child population.”

The pastor of the Afghan Church of New Delhi will oversee the recording and production of the radio programs in the Dari language and will work alongside a CEF worker in Afghanistan to connect with and disciple children. Using the first 12 months of this broadcast as a trial project, The Tide ministry and CEF will monitor and optimize the effectiveness of the program, hoping to connect with at least 500 children in the next year.

The opening song of each Good News Club broadcast will be followed by a Bible story with application for both unsaved and saved children, memory verses, and other tools to help children understand and respond to God’s truth. The third portion of the program will be a question and answer time.

The broadcast will provide a number for children to call to connect with someone who can explain more to them. “Ultimately, we are hoping that children will call the phone number provided and be able to speak with a counselor who can answer their questions and hopefully lead them to Christ,” Shenk said. “While it may take time for the gospel seeds planted in the hearts of children through these radio programs to come to fruition, our expectation is that the program will be heard by many. We believe we can have a minimum of 500 calls in the first 12 months.”

For nearly 75 years, The Tide ministry has recorded and broadcast gospel programming in nine countries on three continents in 27 heart languages spoken by millions of people in multiple regions, including Albania, Bhutan, India, Kosovo, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Thailand, and Zimbabwe.
