Trail Life Inspires Patriotism and Builds Character in More than 36,000 Boys Across America

December 13, 2021

GREENVILLE, S.C. As Americans continue to prepare for Christmas, Trail Life USA (TrailLifeUSA.com), the largest Christ-centered, boy-focused scout-type organization in the country, is taking part in another important event during the holiday season.

Every December, Wreaths Across America coordinates more than 2,500 wreath-laying ceremonies at cemeteries across the country. The wreaths are placed on the graves of veterans in an effort to remember their sacrifice and dedication to the nation. The largest ceremony takes places at Arlington National Cemetery on December 18.

Since 2013, many Trail Life Troops have participated in this event all across the country. Trail Life is dedicated to inspiring patriotism and building character in boys by addressing their needs through outdoor adventure, mentorship, and service. At Trail Life, boys are taught the importance of honoring those who have put their lives on the line for the sake of the country.

Trail Life CEO Mark Hancock commented, “Every year, Trailmen across America honor those in our military, both active and retired, who put their lives on the line to defend our country and our freedom. We hold those men and women in the highest esteem.

“The Trail Life USA oath begins with the words, ‘On my Honor.’ As boys honor our veterans and witness character in their leaders, they come to understand the meaning of the phrase ‘On my Honor.’ It is lived out by the rest of the Trailman Oath, ‘I will do my best to serve God and my country; To respect authority; To be a good steward of creation; And to treat others as I want to be treated.’ As these Truths are lived out, the notion of honor is understood, ‘On my Honor’ takes on meaning, and boys grow to become honorable men.”

Hancock concluded, “Here at Trail Life, we challenge boys to grow as courageous men of character as they discover, learn, and grow through outdoor adventure and intentional mentoring. We think that the drive and daring of boys is exactly what’s responsible for producing winning, determined, respectful, honoring men, and we are proud to foster that in boys across America.”

The Wreaths Across America team stated, “In many homes, there is an empty seat for one who is serving or one who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. There is no better time to express our appreciation than during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.”
