Big Tech Censors Parler, Christians and Conservatives
January 12, 2021
ORLANDO, Fla.— Five of the most prominent American Big Tech companies are called the FAANG stocks. They are Facebook (FB), Amazon (AMZN), Apple (AAPL), Netflix (NFLX), and Alphabet (GOOG) (better known as Google).
This past week, Amazon Web Services dropped Parler, effectively crippling it on the Internet. The action followed Apple’s and Google’s removal of the Parler app from their online stores. Parler is an alternative to Facebook and Twitter, both of which selectively censor content, and rarely include explanations. While this fight for free speech continues, several newer social media sites and web platforms have been experiencing an influx of users like Gab, Rumble, MeWe and DLive.
Timothy Plan, which pioneered Biblically Responsible Investing in 1994, has long barred the “FAANG” Big Tech stocks from its mutual fund and ETF portfolios because of the companies’ unbiblical practices.
“It’s time for Christian and faith-based investors to ‘de-FAANG’ their portfolios,” said Art Ally, founder and president of the Timothy Plan.
“We’ve not included the FAANG stocks for a variety of reasons in both our mutual funds and ETFs” he said. “They repeatedly violate several of our filters, including abortion, pornography and lifestyle. For example, all of them give to Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, and to many other groups that advocate for non-biblical values. Several of these companies profit and allow pornography on their services as well.”
“Christians and others who are interested in values investing don’t have to profit from Big Tech’s overreach. By divesting in the FAANG stocks, investors have the power to be heard without even speaking a word.”
The Timothy Plan family of mutual funds and ETFs uses eVALUEator, a system that filters more than 11,800 mutual funds, more than 6,800 Unites States-based stocks, and more than 18,300 international stocks.
