India’s Christians Face Additional Challenges Under New President

The Tide® Gospel Radio Programs Reach New Believers Who Live with Daily Hardship in Heavily Populated Hindu Nation of India

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.—Imagine the leader of any country worldwide not respecting its citizens’ religious beliefs, including Christianity. That’s the reality in India, where the new president, Hindu nationalist Ram Nath Kovind, is considered a threat to Christians, according to Christianity Today.

In the heavily populated Hindu nation of India, Christians are the minority, but new believers in Christ rely on their brothers and sisters for support and are encouraged by Gospel programming from The Tide® (www.thetide.org) radio ministry.

“Those who are able to listen to the Tide’s gospel radio program ‘Jiwan Roti’ in India have appreciated learning about salvation and the love of Jesus,” said The Tide Director Don Shenk. “But prayers are needed now more than ever that India’s leadership will become more accepting of Christians.”

The Tide ministry frequently hears from radio listeners around the world who testify to the life change they enjoy through their newfound faith in Jesus, such as Bangara in India, who said, “At present I am residing in a hostel. I thank God that I can listen to your ‘Ho’ program ‘Jiwan Roti’ with my friends. Thanks for sharing the love of God and Good News of salvation with me and others through your program.”

The Tide ministry’s newest initiative, called “Every Knee, Every Tongue,” allows people to help place Gospel radio programs like the one heard by India listeners in regions around the world. Through “Every Knee, Every Tongue,” all are welcome to sponsor Christian radio broadcasts produced by The Tide ministry and recorded by local indigenous pastors in both populated and remote communities across the globe.

Rooted in Romans 14:11, “It is written: ‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God’” (NIV), “Every Knee, Every Tongue” raises the question: How will every knee bow and every tongue proclaim praise to God if we don’t share what Jesus has done with others? Later this year, The Tide ministry will offer programming in its 25th heart language—Isaan, spoken by 19 million people in Thailand. That initiative will allow Thailand to join multiple regions of Albania, Bhutan, India, Kosovo, Nepal, Nigeria and Zimbabwe, where The Tide ministry is already active in broadcasting gospel radio programming—in the languages people were born to speak.

The Tide ministry is also planning several local events this month, including the following:
